75% of illness is stress related. When we feel stressed or under pressure, laughter often goes out of our life. Laughter is a great stress buster. The stress hormones, cortisol and adrenaline, are reduced following laughter. At the same time, the happy hormones (endorphins, serotonin and dopamine) are released, relaxing the body and mind, creating a natural high.

We are born knowing how to laugh. Then as we grow older we may laugh less due to the demands and expectations of modern life. Even if we feel that there is nothing to laugh about we still can learn to bring more laughter into our life because it can help us feel better. By learning techniques which increase the opportunity to laugh, we can increase our ability to cope with life's challenges.

Laughter benefits

Laughter helps increase happiness and gives us tools for managing stressful situations. This is because of the physiological changes brought about by laughter. It boosts our immune system which can be less effective when stressed. And when we laugh with other people, a connection is made with them, building confidence and self esteem.

Laughter activities

We run public Laughter Clubs in Manchester, the Laughter Championships, Laughter On Prescription, and workshops for groups. Join us for a laugh or invite us to run a session for your own organisation or group.

When we ran our six-session Laughter on Prescription in Fleetwood for women with medium depression, after two sessions some were saying that their first response was no longer to shout at their children.
